Mariah came face-to-face with the enemy on The Young and the Restless. Ian Ward has already made his triumphant return to Genoa City. Camryn Grimes revealed what working with the great Ray Wise was like.
On the January 2nd episode, Mariah gets the shock of her life. She comes across the man who stole her at birth. Ian broke free from prison. Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) thought she met an unassuming man at Society. Little does she know who he really is.
Tessa quickly learns about him attempting to drug her. Thankfully, Mariah and company come to the rescue. In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, Grimes shared what it was like to reunite with Ray Wise. He’s an extraordinary actor who’s nothing like his nefarious alter-ego.
“Ray is such a wonderful man, first off,” Grimes said. “He has had such a wonderful career, which speaks to all of his [real-life] qualities. I think he made such an incredible character out of Ian and fleshed him out in a way that I don’t know that a lot of people could do. I mean, let’s be real — he makes a great villain!”
Wise is so good at his job that it’s hard to remember that Ian is just a fictional character. But Grimes was ecstatic to work with him again. She’s excited for Ian to bring more drama to the residents of GC. What also helps is that they work well together.
Grimes easily trusts him because he brings so much to the role. Sometimes, it can be challenging for her to convey Mariah’s distaste for Ian. “It is hard to [play] shocked or upset or angry at him because he’s such a lovely person!” Grimes exclaimed.

The soap great is so much fun on the set. But that’s not the case for Mariah’s reunion with Ian. Their dark history runs deep. Mariah will feel even more protective of Tessa and their family. This could be a treat for “Teriah” fans, who have been wanting more of their favorite couple.
“When they’re up against something together, I think that’s where Tessa and Mariah thrive. They’re very good teammates, and they’re very good partners, and so them being faced with a mutual conflict and watching them navigate it as a couple is, I think, going to be enjoyable,” Grimes teased.
What they don’t know is that Ian isn’t a lone wolf. He’s working alongside Jordan (Colleen Zenk), who’s still not done terrorizing the Newmans. (The actors recently discussed the mischief their villains will cause on Y&R.)
