There’s no denying that Victor is overprotective of Claire on The Young and the Restless. While the Newman patriarch thinks he’s doing the right thing, his actions say otherwise. After Victor’s latest scheme, could his relationship with Claire be done for good? Hayley Erin reveals what’s to come.
Can Claire Forgive and Forget?
Ever since Claire joined the Newman family, Victor (Eric Braeden) has been protective of his granddaughter. His safeguarding increased when Claire began dating Kyle (Michael Mealor). From the moment Claire and Kyle’s relationship began, Victor’s actions caused issues for the couple.
After the heartache Kyle put his other granddaughter, Summer (Allison Lanier), through, Victor doesn’t want the same for Claire. Victor’s latest attempt to break up Claire and Kyle involved hiring Audra (Zuleyka Silver) to seduce the Abbott heir. Unfortunately, the plan didn’t work, and now everyone knows about his and Audra’s scheme. While Claire is upset with her grandfather, she seems willing to let it slide.
Erin opened up about Claire’s thought process in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest. “I think the wishful thinking of having the family that she’s always wanted, she’s willing to look past certain things and forgive Victor and accept him and accept his apology.”
Although Erin was unsure about Claire forgiving Victor, she soon realized it was for the best. “The more I thought about it, I realized that actually, it makes sense, especially having just lost her father, that she doesn’t want to lose Victor too. So even though she’s hurt and upset by it, she is going to let it go for the sake of the family.”
While Claire is willing to forgive Victor, she won’t allow him to continue walking all over her. As seen during Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) memorial, Claire grew a backbone when she stood up to her grandfather. Erin hints that fans will see more of this Claire, “I think it’s time that we see that kind of tougher side of her.”
