There’s no love lost between Doug Davidson and The Young and the Restless. The actor, who played Paul Williams from 1978 to 2020, has been vocal about the show disrespecting him and his character. The show’s recent explanation of Paul’s absence has stirred up Davidson.
Paul Misses Heather’s Funeral
It’s been four years since Paul last appeared in Genoa City, and a lot has happened to him offscreen. The former detective retired and moved to Portugal, and later, he and Christine (Lauralee Bell) divorced.
Although the writers left the door open for a possible return, Davidson made it clear he and his character weren’t coming back.
With the recent death of his daughter Heather (Vail Bloom), fans were curious how the writers would explain his absence.
When Daniel (Michael Graziadei) called to inform Paul of Heather’s death, it was too much for him to handle. Moments after their conversation, Daniel learned Paul had a heart attack and wouldn’t be able to attend his daughter’s funeral.
Scotty Baldwin Joins Paul Williams In Portugal
Paul’s absence during Heather’s funeral has not only upset Y&R fans but also Davidson. The Daytime Emmy winner took a shot at the show during a recent Twitter conversation with General Hospital actor Kin Shriner.
Shriner, who’s played Scotty Baldwin on the ABC soap opera since 1977, tweeted about his character’s sudden disappearance.
“Since the mystery of the disappearance of Scotty Baldwin @GeneralHospital here’s the actors I have heard from, no surprise we all started together!! Guess which one calls daily!!!” Shriner wrote while sharing photos of Leslie Charleson, Jane Elliot, Lynn Herring, and Robin Mattson.
Davidson retweeted Shriner’s post and added:
“Come to Portugal! They have great healthcare…apparently, I just had a heart attack and I’m feeling fine…Sincerely, Paul Williams former chief of police Genoa City.”
The industry can be tough for soap veterans like Davidson and Shriner. While some shows continue to utilize the talents of their veteran actors, others bump them to recurring or let them go. While Davidson’s days at Y&R are over, Shriner awaits his return to Port Charles, which might happen soon.
