We don’t blame Daniel for feeling at loose ends on The Young and the Restless. He’s been through a lot. First, Phyllis is his mother. That would leave anyone perpetually shaken. And, yeah, his partner was murdered, and the crime he thought was open and shut now looks anything but. Plus, he’s worried about his daughter. On the January 2 episode, Daniel lamented that Lucy “still doesn’t have any friends.” That made us very worried, too, especially with Ian in town. We’ll explain.
Wouldn’t You Like To Be a Pepper, Too?
Genoa City has a long history of people joining cults. We don’t mean just Mariah (Camryn Grimes). We don’t blame her. She was kidnapped at birth into one, so she didn’t really have much choice in the matter.
We mean Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). She joined a cult when she was only a few years older than Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant). So did Paul (Doug Davidson). It’s where they conceived their son, Dylan (Steve Burton).
And who is Paul’s daughter? Heather (Vail Bloom)! And who is Heather’s daughter? Lucy! (Yes, we know, we know, Heather wasn’t Lucy’s biological mother, but it’s not like Lucy’s biological mother was…sane. So the poor kid got both the nature and the nurture part.)

Everything Old Is New Again
The leader of the cult Mariah grew up in was Ian (Ray Wise). The man is very, very good at what he does. Hey, he got Jordan (Colleen Zenk) to play nicely with someone else. That is some serious power!
So, if Ian wants to relaunch his Manson Family, Lucy seems like a prime candidate for recruitment. You say you have no friends, honey? We’ll give you all the friends you need. Family, too. Feeling sad about your Mommy? Come to Daddy…. Yeah, it’s gross—which is very on-brand for Ian…and Lucy.
