Knowing this day was coming hasn’t made it any easier for fans of Daniel Goddard. The former star of The Young and the Restless has finally said farewell to the top-rated soap.
Daniel Goddard: Genoa City Exit
“My dear friends, I just wanted to let you know that on today’s episode of #yr Cane’s journey finally comes to an end. I [heart] you because over the years u have become family to me. Now… just promise me u’ll remember what Kristoff [St. John, ex-Neil] would say, ‘Stay looking up!’ Always, Daniel”
News broke last month that Goddard would be exiting the show. As Cane, Goddard was tied to Lily (Christel Khalil) and the actor speculated in his announcement that he was leaving the show that without Lily and TV father-in-law Neil, there was no story for Cane.
YR told a story of a sweet friendship between Cane and Traci (Beth Maitland), who envisioned Cane as her hero in a book she was writing. The story played out, partly, in black and white fantasies, but the tale wrapped up earlier this year. Fans were hoping that Khalil would reprise Lily so that she and Cane could be written out together and be given a happy ending. Alas, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
In today’s episode, Cane vowed to clear his name and find justice for Devon (Bryton James). Will a subsequent episode reveal that Cane has left Genoa City in order to accomplish this goal? Or do the recent pre-emptions for the impeachment hearings mean that Goddard is off by a day or two in announcing that today is his final show?
