Courtney Hope warns fans about a common social media scam.
It’s common for a character in a soap opera to be impersonated by someone else. It could be a doppelganger, an evil twin, or a villain who underwent plastic surgery. The Young and the Restless has had its share of similar storylines. Unfortunately, it can happen in real life, especially in the age of social media. Courtney Hope warned fans about someone impersonating her on Threads.
A common online scam is celebrity impersonation. Criminals use a celebrity’s image and likeness to steal money from fans. These fake accounts trick fans into thinking they’re cultivating a deep relationship. Celebrity impersonation scams could also be used for identity theft and to spread misinformation.
Hope was a recent victim of a celebrity impersonation. She took to Threads to warn Y&R and The Bold and the Beautiful fans about the fake account that’s going around. Someone made a fake profile under the username @courtney.hope.35610. Clearly, it’s not her since her username is @thecourtneyhope, and she has the blue verification badge.

Hope mostly posts on Instagram and rarely uses Threads. The fake account in question started following people in her inner circle, and someone brought this matter to Hope’s attention.
“Hey, everyone! I’m not on here much. But it’s been brought to my attention that this profile is impersonating me and adding a bunch of my friends and family,” Hope posted. “Just be advised that if you see this profile, it is not me!”
If you come across this account, you can report it to Meta. Hope thanked her fans for their help with this matter. (This isn’t the first time that Hope asked for fans’ help.) Most of her fans took the post to share that they reported the account.
“You got it, girl!” one fan wrote. “I’m getting really tired of these scammers,” another fan commented.
Unfortunately, social media scammers are on the rise. They can easily cast a wide net of victims who are willing to provide their personal information (like what happened to B&B’s Thorsten Kaye). You can verify a celebrity account by looking for a verification badge or checking the profile information. These simple tips will keep you safe.
