Genoa City’s population is about to increase again. The Young and the Restless has announced yet another new addition. General Hospital alum Matt Cohen, who played ex-priest Griffin Munro on the ABC soap, joins CBS’s number one daytime drama. This follows two other Y&R casting announcements involving former GH actors: Daytime Emmy winners Tamara Braun and Roger Howarth.
New Detective on the Block
EW was the first to report Cohen’s casting. According to the report, the Supernatural alum will play a brand new character named Detective Burrow. Cohen is already filming, which should put his first airdate roughly around Thursday, October 16.
Apparently, the detective “will be front and center investigating a major case featuring some of the soap’s key characters.” Unfortunately, not much more intel is known.
It makes sense that Y&R needs a resident detective after Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd) shock death earlier this summer. Chance died in Nice, France, when Aristotle Dumas’s assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba), murdered him.
Time on GH
Cohen’s small screen credits include the series South of Nowhere. He also appeared as the Young John Winchester and the archangel Michael on the CW’s Supernatural and directed an episode.
But daytime audiences will know him best from his stint on GH as Griffin Munro, Duke Lavery’s son, and an ex-priest who ended up involved with Ava Jerome (Maura West), and then dated her daughter, Kiki Jerome. Hayley Erin played Kiki, which makes Cohen’s arrival on Y&R a reunion. However, it’s unclear whether Detective Burrow and Erin’s character, Claire Newman, will interact.
After GH, Cohen became a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight. More recently, he directed and starred in Exes, a movie about two former FBI partners framed for terrorism and on the run.
