A good old fashioned rivalry is a beloved staple of the soap opera genre. In fact, The Young and the Restless was home to the longest running feud on a daytime drama– (that would be the ever sniping Katherine and Jill.
The series seemed to have a ready-made rivalry for a new generation in the form of Summer (Hunter King) and Lola (Sasha Calle) but then something strange began to happen. First, the ladies bonded over some serious mamma drama.
Then, Lola invited a gate-crashing Summer to stay for her bridal shower. Later, Summer actually had some complimentary things to say about Lola.

So rather than setting the two young women up to become epic squabblers, YR seems to be going in a shocking new direction. Is it possible that Lola and Summer could become FRIENDS? Here’s what more than 12,000 viewers have to say:
The Nay’s Have It
The two ladies can defiantly be friends — when hell freezes over — say 55% of voters. The majority of you are not happy to see the first Mrs. Kyle Abbott and the soon-to-be second Mrs. Kyle Abbott being so chummy.
Summer gave Lola one of her kidneys. There is a piece of Summer INSIDE Lola for Pete’s sake. And, truth be told, Summer only donated the organ to score points with Kyle. What was her reward you ask? Divorce papers. That has got to sting!
A Mature Counter-Opinion
Still, 44% of you think that Lola and Summer should be out buying BFF bracelets. A large number of fans concur that it would be a nice change of pace to see two women developing a friendship rather than catfighting over a man. And many feel it would be nice to see an actual female friendship depicted on-screen.
You wouldn’t exactly call what Phyliss and Lauren have a close relationship. And it’s hard to pinpoint a healthy female-centric relationship of this show. So, perhaps making Summer and Lola besties is actually a step in the right direction for CBS’s number one sudser.
Stranger things HAVE happened on this show. Remember Kevin, robbing banks, in a Chipmunk costume? It’s painful, but somebody has to. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
