On the April 8 episode of The Young and the Restless, Traci was in her room talking to Alan, Jack and Ashley were downstairs talking about what was going on with Traci and Alan (or maybe Martin), and Sharon, Phyllis, Nick, and Chance were talking about how France was the key to what happened to them in Genoa City. All this French talk (were Jack and Ashley even eating French fries?) made us wonder if we weren’t being handed a huge clue as to who was really behind all this turmoil.
The Last Time I Saw Paris
Alan (Christopher Cousins) is from France (well, most recently, his accent sounds vaguely European-ish). He treated Ashley (Eileen Davidson) in France, and France was where Martin played with her mind to the point where she ended up in a mental institution — also in France! You know who else was from France? Marc Mergeron!

French Letters
And who was Marc? Marc was Dina’s (Marla Adams) stepson. Also Ashley’s ex. Marc resented Dina for what he believed to be was stealing his late father’s fortune. He resented Ashley for not falling for his smarmy charms.
He also tried to seduce Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), con Jack (Peter Bergman), steal from Jill (Jess Walton), and instal himself as Lauren’s (Tracey Bregman) mother’s boy toy (that last part, he actually managed). The point is, he knows a lot about Genoa City. And he has a real chip on his shoulder against the Abbotts and the Newmans.

French Twist
What if this has all been a plot Marc cooked up in Paris, along with the evil Martin, to frame Ashley for Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) kidnapping? This way, he would get his revenge on the woman who dumped him, the mothers of Nikki’s grandchildren, and on all of Dina’s children, including Jack and Traci. It’s the French Connection we’ve been looking for!
