On The Young and the Restless, Allison Lanier’s character, Summer, is embroiled in a contentious battle with Kyle for custody of her stepson, Harrison. In real life, Lanier and Redding Munsell, who portrays Harrison, have a special bond, which makes all the difference.
Bonding
Recently, Lanier spoke with Soap Opera Digest about the dynamic she shares with the young actor off-screen, detailing how it helps them portray mother and son on-screen. “He is such a bright young kid,” she said. “He’s on set joking around with everybody, so it’s really easy to connect with him.
“When we get into the scene, he’s just right there, and he is playing that part; he’s playing Harrison,” noted Lanier. Then, when they’re not filming, it seems that the time they spend together helps inform their acting. “We all hang out on set and I do think those bonds we’re building definitely help to translate our [characters’] relationship.” That bonding certainly pays off in their scenes.
Lanier also praised those who chose to cast Munsell in the role. “I definitely think our casting team did a very good job finding Redding. He’s really worked out beautifully.”
Battle
Despite less-than-enthusiastic support from her brother, Daniel (Michael Graziadei), it looks like Summer plans to go full steam ahead on attempting to get sole custody of Harrison. She even told Chance (Conner Floyd) that she plans to get a real house so Harrison won’t be in her hotel room all the time. Even though she’s not Harrison’s biological mom (that’s Tara Locke [Elizabeth Lenier]), she wants to remain his mom.
So far, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Chance seem to be Summer’s biggest supporters, while Daniel and Nick (Joshua Morrow) advise caution. We suspect Victor (Eric Braeden) would also be supportive.
