Jordan sure seems to have a knack for escaping from prison on The Young and the Restless. Both the federal kind, and the kind where she’s just locked in a dingy room. We don’t blame Victor for getting fed up and deciding to take matters into his own hands on the Thursday, April 25 episode. Now that’s knocked Jordan out, he isn’t just going to hand her over to the authorities again. Instead, he chose to tell everybody she died, but Victor really locked up Jordan in a familiar location…the cell in his wine cellar. Here’s what happened the last time Victor went down that road.
Victor (Eric Braeden) arrived in Genoa City already married to Julia (the late Meg Bennett, whom he honored here). Victor kept telling her how he was the best husband ever, and Julia couldn’t possibly want anymore than him. Julia…begged to differ. Tired of being controlled and belittled and made to feel like she was incapable of taking care of herself — sound familiar, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott, who we feel was snubbed for a Daytime Emmy nomination)? — Julia fell in love with Michael Scott (Nicholas Benedict) in 1980.
Julia became pregnant and, because he’d had a vasectomy, Victor assumed the baby was Michael’s. (Victor had the worst vasectomy in the history of daytime. Victoria [Amelia Heinle] was also conceived under the same bad assumption, when Nikki was married to a chump named Kevin.) Unable to process the idea that there was a man his wife might prefer over him, Victor decided to handle the problem by…removing the problem. He kidnapped Michael and locked him up in the now all too familiar wine cellar.
But Victor wasn’t content merely to make Michael suffer by giving him little water, even less food, and nothing to do but ponder the error of his ways. Victor had close-captioned TV installed, so that Michael could watch Victor and Julia having sex. It was like Showtime After Dark — and for free! Michael should be grateful!
Eventually, Victor’s one-time errand boy, Paul (Doug Davidson, who we interviewed here) helped Julia rescue Michael. Victor caught them and, while running away, Julia tripped, fell down the stairs, and miscarried Victor’s baby. She and Michael weren’t able to make their relationship work, and left town separately, Julia returned several times over the years, primarily to tell Victor how wonderful he was, how totally she’d forgiven him, and how great he and Nikki were together.
We presume Victor has had a cleaning person in to keep his cell tidy. After all, he’s a cautious guy. You never know when you may need your dungeon again. Especially when you’ve got a crazy lady to hide. Will anybody realize he’s locked Jordan away down there? Only time will tell…
