He’s been gone from the role of Adam on The Young and the Restless for over three years, but loyal fans of Michael Muhney still want him back in Genoa City.
In fact, they’d like it to happen so much, they assume that it’s already in the works. One Twitter follower, Deb Meyers, recently congratulated Muhney on his return to daytime.
Not So Fast!
There’s just one problem: Muhney’s not headed back to Genoa City anytime soon. The actor responded to Myers that “There is no return to Y&R at this point. But who knows what the future holds?”
Could a return happen? At the time of Muhney’s high publicized exit (TMZ reported allegations of inapprorpiate behavior that led to his departure), the then-CBS Entertainment President told reporters at the TV Critics press tour:
“I can’t comment on any of the allegations. I can only say that when the producers and Sony [Pictures Television] came to us and said, ‘We want to make a change,’ and they laid out their reasoning why, we supported them.”
Adam 4.0
A recent petition conducted by Soap Hub was signed by over 15,000 fans who want Muhney back on the show. Adam’s return is likely inevitable.
The show needs a strong antagonist and given Adam’s lengthy history and tie to the Newmans, a core family, he’s an ideal character to have on the scene.
But the show is not limited to considering just Muhney for the role of Adam if and when he miraculously returns from the dead (again).
Two other actors — Chris Engen and Justin Hartley — have played the part and there’s no reason why Y&R can’t find a fourth actor to play the role as an adult.
Also, Muhney could always land on another soap or another TV show. “Believe me, I know you guys are psyched to see me on tv soon,” Muhney recently tweeted. “I promise I will tell you where & when you need to tune in. Hang in there!”
