We’ve heard the news, “The Young and the Restless” star Michael E. Knight (Dr. Neville) is leaving Genoa City, but we didn’t know the reasons. It came as a shock and now, more information reveals his storyline may be part of the reason the talented actor is leaving.
Recently, enstarz.com reminded us of what Michael E. Knight said as he began his role as the cerebral, idealistic Dr. Neville. “I see it [the role of Dr. Neville] lasting into the New Year, but I’m not sure if it has legs for [permanency]…but then again, in soaps, you never really know!”
Wise words from a man who has spent several decades in daytime dramas–mostly on “All My Children” as the beloved “Tad the Cad.” Two days ago, soap fan and television journalist Michael Logan Tweeted this:
More #YR news: Three time Emmy winner Michael E. Knight out as Dr. Simon Neville after a few more eps. Decision made before EP switch.

“You never know what’s going to hit. They have a very full roster at Y&R. They’ve been doing this a long, long time. And they’ve done a really good job of keeping it the Abbotts and the Newmans, that ongoing story that they have. So when it comes to the niche, you never really know how it’s going to move forward. So I’m very, very happy to be part of the show,” Knight added about Dr. Neville’s probable short shelf life.
We don’t know about you, but we were really getting into the idea of a Dr. Neville/Ashley (Eileen Davidson) relationship, and liking this unusual soap hero. He was sort of a grown up Damian Spinella of “General Hospital.”
We sure hope Mal Young, the new EP at Y&R, manages to keep Dr. Neville in Genoa City! “It is unclear if new EP, Mal Young, is trying to find some way to get him back onto the show,” enstarz said of this possibility.”
