Melissa Claire Egan is confirming her exit from The Young and the Restless. The actress took to social media to confirm reports that she’s leaving the top rated soap.
An Emmy-nominee for her role as Chelsea Lawson Newman, Egan joined the soap in 2011 as a woman who’d had sex with Billy (then Billy Miller, later Jason Thompson) overseas and she became pregnant with his son, Johnny, currently being raised by Billy and his ex-wife Victoria (Ameia Heinle).
Later, Chelsea moved onto a relationship with Adam Newman (first Michael Muhney, later, Justin Hartley), which became a hit with fans.
Chelsea gained a mother, Anita (Catherine Bach), who made it easy to see where Chelsea had gotten her con artist training!
Not long after the deaths of both Adam and Sage (Kelly Sullivan), their respective mates, Chelsea and Nick, began developing a relationship.
Things were going smoothly between the two until Nick discovered tons of cash in Chelsea’s bathroom.
Will this on-going story be what jettisons Chelsea off the canvas? Or will the show recast the part and continue the tale with a new face? Stay tuned to find out!
And read Egan’s statement below, a thoughtful tweet in which she thanks Y&R, her fans, and her co-star Joshua Morrow.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
