Is Matt Clark on his way to becoming a good guy on The Young and the Restless? That’s the question many fans are asking now that Matt has amnesia. While the storyline sets up a potential redemption arc, many wonder if he can truly change.

Key Takeaways

  • Matt is a notorious Y&R villain who terrorized Nick, Sharon, and their family.
  • Matt recently developed amnesia after being attacked by Sienna.
  • The amnesia story is setting up a possible redemption for Matt.
  • A fan debate has emerged on whether Matt can be redeemed.

No More Mr. Bad Guy

For the past six months, Matt (Roger Howarth) has continued to do what he does best, terrorize Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case). To make matters worse, Noah (Lucas Adams), Adam (Mark Grossman), and other members of the Newman family have faced Matt’s wrath.

Recently, while in Las Vegas, Matt tried to kill Sharon, Noah, Nick, and Adam in a bomb explosion. Fortunately, the Newman security team got the group out just in time.

Meanwhile, Matt had a showdown with his ex-wife, Sienna (Tamara Braun). Matt attacked Sienna who fended him off by clobbering him in the head with a rock. Sienna then fled the scene, believing Matt was dead.

However, Matt soon showed up alive in Genoa City and suffering from amnesia. Matt has no recollection of his past crimes, but has already had a confrontation with Noah.

Although the Newmans remain suspicious of Matt, his amnesia could set up a possible redemption for him. So can Matt become Y&R’s next reformed villain?

On a soap opera forum, fans debated whether Matt can be redeemed. Most agree that there’s no hope for Matt. “There is no redemption for such a rapist,” declared one viewer.

”I can’t give Matt a pass either. I can’t see him as anything but a villain,” one user replied.

However, a few fans think redemption is possible if given the right story. Some suggested the show could go the brain tumor route. “Maybe once he is ‘caught’ they do a brain scan to see if there are any damages and find the tumor.”

Can Matt Change?

There’s been many Genoa City villains who have redeemed themselves. Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) are perfect examples of bad people who’ve turned their lives around. Although Michael is still on the up and up, Phyllis tends to revert back to old habits.

Redemption is possibly for Matt, especially now with his memory loss. Whether fans are willing to accept the new and improved Matt after his horrific past is another story.

Matt’s amnesia story will certainly be interesting to watch. When and if Matt’s memory does turn, it’ll set in motion whether he’s willing to change or continue his bad-boy ways.
