Jack stepped down from Jabot to spend more time with his mother, Dina, who’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s on The Young and the Restless (YR). As a result, we’ve seen the son and mother spend a lot of time together, sharing moments that are touching and — given how feisty Dina can be — almost humorous.
Soap Hub asked Y&R fans if they enjoy watching Jack and Dina spending so much time together. Read on for the results!
Highs And Lows
Over 85% of you enjoy watching Jack (Peter Bergman) and Dina (Marla Adams) together, and you find their dynamic highly entertaining! The scenes have been tender, as they go over Abbott family history, including Dina deciding to walk out on the family, leaving ex-husband John behind to raise their kids without her.
Of course, they can switch on a dime, as Dina will get all fiery and tear into Nikki or Hilary and tell them off. Dina had been off the canvas for many years, but she is making up for that lost time now!
Professional Help
The rest of you 15% aren’t entertained by Jack and Dina.
This group may feel that given the serious nature of Alzheimer’s, the story needs to be more informative. It’s great that Jack took a leave from Jabot to care for his mom, but look what happened when he brought her to the office the minute he felt he needed to step in and keep Ashley from pulling a powerplay — Dina wandered off!
What’s Next?
People afflicted with Alzheimer’s can live for many, many years so it remains to be seen how Y&R is going to handle this story. Will Dina remain on the canvas? How far will the show go presenting the ravages of the condition?
Finding that balance between being entertaining and educational will be a tough task, however, we are confident that Y&R will find a way to tell Dina’s story with dignity and respect.
