The Young and the Restless brought back Malcolm and Stephanie to drop a couple of bombshells. Fans have some serious thoughts about the latest storyline, which feels way too familiar.

Key Takeaways

  • Holden is Malcolm’s son with Stephanie.
  • Y&R fans are saying one thing about the storyline: it was just done.
  • The storyline is still good, even though it’s a rinse and repeat.

Y&R Fans Are Saying Been There Done That with Holden’s Paternity

The return of Malcolm (Shemar Moore) and Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox) has certainly shaken things up in Genoa City. Not only is Malcolm sick and in need of bone marrow, but it turns out Stephanie has been keeping a secret son from him.

Holden (Nathan Owens) is the biological son of Stephanie and Malcolm. It was a reveal we saw coming a mile away once news broke that Fox and Moore were returning to the CBS soap.

The issue that Y&R fans have with this storyline is that it was just done a little over a year ago with Nate (Sean Dominic) and Damian (Jermaine Rivers). Amy (Valarie Pettiford) revealed to Nate that Damian was his brother, only for Damian to be killed in France as he and Nate were beginning to bond.

“Damien’s body isn’t even cold and they’re already giving his story to someone else,” declared a fan on X.

Another fan chimed in, saying, “This is the same story they just did with Damien lol.”

Others feel like the CBS soap has become nothing more than different versions of storylines involving kidnappings, drug use or addiction, baby daddy drama, and Victor (Eric Braeden) being a menace to the town.

There’s no question that there’s been a lot of rinse-and-repeat on Y&R over the past couple of years, especially regarding kidnappings. However, that doesn’t mean making Holden Malcolm’s son isn’t a good idea.

After all, the revelation gives Holden real ties to Genao City and to a core/legacy family on the show. Holden is now Lily’s (Christel Khalil) biological brother and, at the very least, cousin to Devon (Bryton James).

Growing the Winters family in light of Dru (Victoria Rowell) and Neil (Kristoff St. John) being dead, and Olivia (Tonya Lee Williams) being MIA, is never a bad thing. The other plus is that it now gives Malcolm another reason to pop back into Genoa City, and we are all for that happening as much as possible.
