The Young and the Restless made daytime TV history with its debut on March 26, 1973. The CBS soap opera has been a popular drama for the past 39 years and is currently the number one soap opera. With the show celebrating its 53rd anniversary, actress Lauralee Bell has a special message for fans.

Key Takeaways

  • Bell is the daughter of Y&R’s creators, William J. and Lee Phillip Bell.
  • The actress has been playing Christine since 1983.
  • Bell, along with the Y&R cast and crew, is celebrating the show’s 53rd anniversary.

No Stopping

Y&R is one of daytime’s most iconic soaps, created by the late William J. Bell and his wife, Lee Phillip Bell. Throughout its years on TV, the show has won multiple awards and tackled issues such as alcoholism and sexual harassment.

For over five decades, the show has been entertaining audiences with its dramatic storytelling. As the show reaches its 53rd anniversary, one cast member is honoring the soap in a special way.

According to a press release, “Lauralee Bell, the Emmy-winning creator/actress/producer/ has portrayed Christine ‘Cricket’ Blair Romalotti for over 42 years on The Young and the Restless, the #1-rated daytime drama for decades. Bell just dropped her latest video celebrating the 53rd anniversary of The Young and the Restless on her Instagram, and of course, she included lots of her castmates.”

Set to Miley Cyrus’ song “We Can’t Stop,” the clip shows Bell and castmates, including Peter Bergman, Michelle Stafford, Sharon Case, and Michael Damian, celebrating on set. “Y&R’s cast and crew can’t stop and won’t stop thanking you for getting us to our 53rd anniversary. It’s so exciting to be #1 and going strong thanks to you,” Bell captioned the video.

53 Years Strong

Much has changed since Y&R’s 1973 debut. When the soap first premiered, it focused on the Foster and Brooks families. As the years went by, new families such as the Newmans, Abbotts, and Winters were introduced.

While characters come and go, one thing that hasn’t changed is Y&R’s penchant for romance and drama. Whether it’s love triangles, business takeovers, family feuds, murder mysteries, or kidnappings, fans continue tuning in for Genoa City drama.

These days, there’s still plenty of drama brewing in Genoa City with Victor’s (Eric Braeden) scheming and Jack’s (Peter Bergman) quest for revenge. And, of course, Bell’s character, Christine, is still a huge part of the show.

Although the attorney is now traveling the world with her husband, Danny (Damian), Christine still makes occasional returns. Since most of Genoa City can’t stay out of trouble, Christine is always on call to help a friend in need.
