Just Deserts: Did JT Have It Coming on The Young and the Restless (YR)?

Soaps in general, and The Young and the Restless (YR) in particular, tend to have villains pay for their bad deeds. Unless they’re super-popular, like Victor (Eric Braeden), Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), and Hilary (Mishael Morgan). Then they just keep on trucking.

But JT (Thad Luckinbill) was particularly bad lately. He not only committed the ‘minor’ crime of abusing Victoria (Amelia Heinle), he committed the major offense of spying on Victor. Such betrayal must not be allowed to stand!

But did JT deserve to die? Over 15,000 played judge and jury!

He Only Had Himself To Blame!
Yup, 78% of you didn’t need to think about it for long. Live by the sword, die by the sword, and the minute JT tried to choke Victoria, he was asking for her mom to smack him over the head with a fire-poker.

After that, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Vicky, Sharon (Sharon Case), and Phyllis had no choice but to dump him in an unmarked grave. And lie about it.

Not So Fast
Nobody deserves to be murdered, 21% of the audience argues, especially if JT was as much of a victim as anyone.

If Nikki isn’t responsible for her pill addiction, and Billy (Jason Thompson) isn’t responsible for his gambling addiction, and Neil (Kristoff St. John) isn’t responsible for his alcohol addiction, then JT should have been issued the same courtesy.

JT deserved help and treatment, not death and six feet of dirt on his face.

Other Options
And then there’s the 1% that believe JT deserved arrest and punishment, but having him killed off sends the wrong message for those being abused.

They shouldn’t take the law into their own hands. They should turn to the authorities for help. But Y&R is making it seem like the police can’t be trusted in such cases, and that they won’t take the side of the abused.
