On the July 9 episode of The Young and the Restless, Jill, once again, tried to repair her relationship with Billy while Billy, once again, made it as hard for her as possible. Billy was right… up until the moment he was wrong.
Key Takeaways
- Jill is doing her best to make the past up to Billy.
- Billy is holding onto old grudges.
- Jill has a better point than he does.
Billy’s Childhood Still Shapes Every Relationship
No one is arguing that, for decades, Jill (played by Brenda Dickson, Deborah Adair, and Jess Walton) was an absolutely awful mother. She ignored Phillip — unless she could use him to annoy Kay (Jeanne Cooper). She hid him from John (Jerry Douglas) when they were dating, because she knew he did not want to deal with a child.
She sent Phillip off to boarding school and, when he came back, he preferred living with stepmother Kay to living with his own mother. And then he faked his death. That’s how much Philip wanted to get away from Jill (currently Lauren Koslow).
Jill Can’t Rewrite the Past
Jill had Billy (Jason Thompson) as a way to hold onto John… and his money. She was a pretty rotten mom to him, too. He acted out in his teens, and Jill wasn’t really there for him. We are totally on Billy’s side about this.
Except that… since his troubled high school years, Billy has treated every woman in his life like she was Jill — always accusing her of not loving him enough. Victoria (Amelia Heinle), Phyllis (Michele Stafford), Chelsea (Melissa Claire Eagan), Lily (Christel Khalil). Poor Sally (Courtney Hope) is next — she just doesn’t know it. When it’s such an obvious and obnoxious pattern, Billy has to do some soul-searching.
Holding Onto the Hurt Is Only Hurting Billy Now
But Jill has apologized. Over and over and over and over again. She’s taken the blame for all his issues.
Can Billy really move on? It might even help his relationships with women, too… letting go of his resentments toward Jill. It seems he’s offered to try since Billy accepted Jill’s invitation.
