Jason Canela is a daytime newcomer, but clearly, The Young and the Restless likes what it sees in the handsome actor. He’s been bumped up from recurring status to being a contract player on the top-rated soap!
The actor broke the casting news on his Instagram page, expressing his gratitude to, Executive Producer and Head Writer Mal Young, Sony Pictures Television, and CBS for believing in him and making him a series regular.
Canela debuted on the show in early February of this year as a contractor who was helping Nick on his charitable housing project.
Soon, Arturo began romancing Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) during a period of time in which she and husband Victor (Eric Braeden) were trying to have an “open marriage.”
In time, Nikki and Arturo’s relationship hit a plateau and, as they had no commitment to one another, Arturo started seeing other women – namely, Abby (Melissa Ordway), who, technically, is Nikki’s stepdaughter.
Nikki pointed that out to Arturo but it seemed to be more of an attempt on her part to keep the handsome hunk for herself rather than it being over a desire to protect Abby.
There’s no word on why the show put Arturo on contract. There may be plans to continue the Arturo/Abby relationship.
