Is The Young and the Restless’ Sean Carrigan An American Vandal?

As The Young and the Restless’ Stitch, Sean Carrigan didn’t have much to laugh about but now he’s making up for that courtesy of his role in a new Netflix series set to premiere on Friday, Sept. 15.

Carrigan plays coach Rafferty at fictional Hanover High School in American Vandal, a show that pokes fun at more serious dramatic programs such as American Crime.

American Vandal tells in a mock documentary fashion the story of Dylan, a high schooler who is accused of defacing 27 (!) automobiles with sexually graphic drawings. And since Dylan’s known for crafting such images, he becomes the prime suspect…but is he guilty?

Carrigan had already worked with the show’s creators (Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault) on some Funny Or Die videos in which he played Brett Favre (eerily nailing the pro football with a spot on impersonation).

“They’d all gone on to do other stuff while I was doing Y&R,” Carrigan tells Soap Hub. “They pitched [American Vandal] to Netflix and they said to me, ‘We have a perfect part for you.'”

Carrigan debuts in the second episode of American Vandal, but viewers can see him quickly because the whole series becomes available at once.

“At first, my character brushes off these kids who are doing a documentary [to shed light on Dylan’s possible innocence],” the actor says. “He thinks it’s kind of funny, but later I become more integral and the question is raised, ‘Does Coach Rafferty have something more to do with this?'”

Also in the cast is Ashlyn Pearce (ex-Ali, The Bold and the Beautiful). “We worked on the same day,” Carrigan says. “She’s a sweet girl and a very good actress.”

He adds: “This series has a lot of potential. We’ve already gotten 39 million views on just the trailer. The story will lead you down different paths and you won’t be sure what to believe.”
