Fans never like to see a popular actor leave a show. They can only hope that the beloved performer returns to the soap someday. Might fans of Greg Rikaart be getting their wish to see Kevin return to The Young and the Restless (YR)?
The August 7 issue of Soap Opera Digest poses the question on its cover, “Greg Rikaart Back Already?”
Kevin Can Wait…Or Can’t He?
The casting item in Digest contains Y&R’s standard response that the show doesn’t comment on casting.
But this doesn’t mean that Rikaart isn’t on his way back to Genoa City.
The fan outcry over his departure was quite strong. “I am not ready for him to leave,” wrote one longtime viewer on social media. “I am 80 and I have [watched the] show since it came on. It is like losing a friend when someone leaves.”
Rikaart, an Emmy-winner for his role as Kevin, is beloved by his co-workers, too.
Tracey Bregman (Lauren) recently posted a photo (see below) of herself and Rikaart on Instagram with the caption: “Love @gregrikaart so much. One of the best men I know and my closest friend on @youngandrestlesscbs @cbsdaytime #castmates.”
Stay Tuned
Rikaart’s return, while ultimately inevitable, may or may not happen sooner than later. We’ve seen shows change their minds over letting someone go due to fan outcry.
Perhaps one of the bigger examples of this was years ago when General Hospital axed Rebecca Herbst (Liz). Following a vocal response from the fans, the show reversed its decision. Will that happen with Rikaart? Stay tuned to find out!
