It’s been over a month since the material by Mal Young, the new head writer of The Young and The Restless, began airing. Viewers have already seen his impact with certain stories being wrapped up.
Soap Hub asked Y&R how you feel about the show now that Young’s vision is up and running. Read on to get the answers!
Restless Style
The majority of you, just under 47%, feel that the show is so much better under Young. You approve of him bringing some stories to a close and jettisoning characters off the canvas including Juliet, Zack, and (at least for now) Graham.
Young has amped up the drama by focusing on Dina’s Alzheimer’s and pushed the Sharon/Scott/Abby triangle to the forefront. Also, Victoria is proving she’s her father’s daughter by being a power player in the business world!
Tried And True
Just over 43% of you feel that the show is the same as it was before.
This makes sense as there have been no major cast additions to the show since Young took over, just the previously mentioned cast departures. Soap fans value a consistent cast so the fact that so many of you feel the show is the same isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Room For Improvement
The rest of you, a little over 10%, say that it’s not as good. These voters perhaps had become attached to the new characters (Juliet, Zack, Graham) and would have liked to have seen them stick around and play out their stories more fully.
The good news is that soap is doing its best to streamline its characters. The Abbott clan is united in doing what’s best for Dina, Jack and Nikki have split, and Hilary’s (finally!) gotten her comeuppance! What’s next? Stay tuned!
