Once upon a time, when he literally had nothing better to do, Jack jumped into bed with Gloria on The Young and the Restless. The fact that she’d been married to his dad didn’t really slow him down.
The Young and the Restless Polling
Gloria (Judith Chapman) wasn’t even the first woman Jack (Peter Bergman) and John (Jerry Douglas) shared. The fans were split. There was the You Go, Glo! and the Glack, Jack contingent. Where do you fall on a second go-around? We heard from almost 3,000 viewers:
Act One
A majority 80% of the audience isn’t interested. It didn’t work the first time, and it certainly won’t work again. Sure, you realize that Jack is lonely. The guy has done nothing for months but look for excuses to hunt down necklaces and buy Newman companies to keep from facing the fact that there is no love in his life, and he’s not OK with that.
Now, with Dina (Marla Adams) is dead, he’s going to feel even more at loose ends. And it might be tempting to fall back into old habits. Old habits named Gloria. He should fight the impulse. She is a selfish, scheming, money-grubbing social climber. She will not make Jack happy.
Act Two
A much smaller 20% is all in on a Take Two. You don’t even know what happened to split them up the first time. One day, Gloria was there, the next she wasn’t. Did she and Jack have a fight? Did they drift apart? Where has she been, anyway? (She claims Hollywood.)
Gloria has just returned to Genoa City as unexpectedly and dramatically as she (presumably) left it. She’s hiding a secret. She wants something. Maybe Jack can help. It may not be good for him, but it’s likely to be fun. In the short term. In the long run, it will lead to drama. Which is even better. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS.
