Former The Young and the Restless actor, Jay Bontatibus, has died after a long battle with cancer, according to Soap Opera Digest. The actor was only 52.

Bontaibus played the character of Tony Viscardi from 1999-2000, replacing popular actor Nick Scotti in the role. The character was an auto mechanic, in love with Megan Dennison, who was portrayed by Ashley Jones (ex-Parker, General Hospital). The character was run down on his wedding day by the bride’s sister, Tricia. Megan and Tony married on his deathbed.

Bontatibus was once married to Marnie Saitta, onetime Y&R casting director who is currently doing the same job on Days of Our Lives. He also had roles as Andy (2002-2003) on GH and Port Charles, and Rob (2008) on DAYS.

According to Digest, the actor was surrounded by friends and family when he passed away. Soap Hub sends our thoughts and prayers to them.
