Michael Muhney, formerly Adam on The Young and the Restless, has endured another deep, personal loss. The actor, who recently lost his stepfather, has shared the death of another beloved family member.

Condolences To Michael Muhney

“The day I was born,” the actor tweeted, “Richard Muhney became a Grandpa. My friend. My fan. Always incredibly close. We spoke only yesterday. He passed this morning. 90 years old.”

Richard Muhney was a fan of the 1941 Humphrey Bogart film The Maltese Falcon. “He got this Falcon replica in the ’60s and sent it to me for inspiration,” shares Muhney, adding a famous line of dialogue from the film recited by Bogart’s character Sam Spade: “Here’s the stuff that dreams are made of.”

You can see in Muhney’s tweet below a DVD of the film, a replica Maltese Falcon, and a touching note from Muhney’s grandfather.

Muhney debuted as Adam Newman on YR in 2009, replacing Chris Engen in the role. He played the part until January 2014. Adam and Billy (Billy Miller) were in a car arguing over Adam accidentally striking and killing Billy’s daughter Delia with his car.

Later, Adam resurfaced in the form of Justin Hartley (This Is Us). Hartley played the part for a few years. Adam exited the canvas after a cabin he was in exploded. The next time viewers saw Adam, he was being played by Mark Grossman, the actor who currently inhabits the role.

Currently, Adam is concerned about his girlfriend Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), who is recovering from a stroke. He’s spending time with his ex, Sharon (Sharon Case), who wed Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) at the end of last year.

Since exiting YR, Muhney has worked sporadically, appearing in the short film Sidepiece, the ABC medical drama The Good Doctor, the TV movie Correcting Christmas, and the films Search Engine and The Track. Soap Hub sends deep sympathies to Muhney and his family at this difficult time. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
