The Young and the Restless

Five Things Mal Young’s Done Instantly Right At The Young And The Restless!

Executive producer Mal Young’s material as head writer began airing on Wednesday of this week on The Young and the Restless and he didn’t waste any time in putting his stamp on the top-rated drama.

Instantly, the show took on a new pace — viewers no longer have to wait for the action to move forward yet the show’s not missing any trademark character beats either.

Here’s what Young and company have been able to accomplish in only two days!

Family Togetherness
Soaps are about families so when Victoria was rushed to Genoa City Memorial it made sense that Victor, Nikki, Nick, Abby, Reed, and Billy would all gather by her side.

There’s something special about knowing all your loved ones are going to drop whatever they’re doing, put their differences aside, and be (mostly) civil with one another.

Good And Evil
Zack had been keeping a low profile overall, but we know he’s hardcore now that he’s framed Scott for murder.

Surprisingly, the slime has shown he has a soft spot as evidenced by the poignant voicemail he left for Abby.

Meanwhile, Scott, who hadn’t faced much immediate danger since being rescued from his overseas captivity, is now in big danger again.

No Delaying Dina
Surprisingly, the search for Dina didn’t take months. It just took two episodes for Jack and Ashley to track her down with Paul’s help. Young’s sending a message saying that you can’t miss a day of Y&R!

Mystery Solved
Victoria’s strange behavior has been puzzling so Young revealed that her conduct was tied to some faulty face cream. But there’s still drama tied to the situation: Billy’s continued involvement in his ex’s life is going to annoy both Victor and Phyllis to no end.

Sweet, Sweet Music
Music has been a staple on Y&R since the show’s inception. Appropriately, Young brought music to his first episode in the form of a record Jack had ordered as a gift for Dina.

The lullaby, performed on the show by Young’s wife, Mari Wilson, was one that Dina hummed to Jack when he was a child. Playing the song on air heightened the Abbott siblings’ feelings for their missing mom, and the tune continued to play as other stories unfolded, which brought the whole episode together.

There’s more of course: Billy/Phyllis’ epic fighting, the biting banter between Hilary and Lily, and “little” things like hearing police radio reports in the squad room scenes. We can’t wait for more of Young’s Y&R!

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for time and channel.
