There are child stars, and then there’s Bryton James, who has had a successful career since before he could tie his shoes. James began working at a very young age, but he is best known for playing Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless.
Along with acting, James is also passionate about music, something he especially focused on when he was younger. From his first acting role to the mega A-list celebrity he worked with, here are five fast facts you need to know about the actor.
In The Beginning…
James was born in Lakewood, California to parents Eric and Bette McClure. James was artistic from a very young age, especially because his father was a musician and songwriter. In fact, James started in show business when he was just two years old.
A-List Connection
When he got started working in commercials at a young age, James was cast in one with King of Pop Michael Jackson. James also presented Jackson with an award at the 1993 NAACP Image Awards with fellow child star Raven-Symoné!
First Role
When he was just four years old, James was cast as Richie Crawford on the popular sitcom, Family Matters. This was his first television role and he remained on the show from 1990 to 1997.
Emmy Award-Winning Role
James has been nominated for four Emmys over the course of his career, thanks to his role as Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless. He won his Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series back in 2007.
Getting Personal
James married Ashley Leisinger in 2011, in a ceremony that was officiated by YR co-star Christian LeBlanc, but sadly the couple split in 2014. He then dated actress Sterling Victorian from May 2015 to August 2016.
Though he doesn’t have any children of his own, he is the godfather to the children of two of his YR co-stars, Christel Khalil and Daniel Goddard. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
