He’s played smiling Jack Abbott on The Young And The Restless for nearly 30 years! But what do you know about the man who plays Jack, Peter Bergman? Here are five fast facts that you may not know about the Y&R veteran!
He’s Not A Doctor, But…
When a famous cough syrup company needed to replace a spokesperson (played by another actor who portrayed a doctor on a soap opera), it reached out to Bergman (then, Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children), who uttered the line: “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV…”
A BOLD Move
Bergman is one of many actors from YR who has taken his character and visited The Bold And The Beautiful. He traveled from Los Angeles to Genoa City in 1998.
Film Fantasy
At the height of soap opera popularity in the early 1980s, Bergman appeared in the TV-movie Fantasies along with other daytime stars including Robin Mattson (ex-Heather, General Hospital), Stuart Damon (ex-Alan, GH), Robert S. Woods (ex-Bo, One Life To Live), and John Gabriel (ex-Seneca, Ryan’s Hope).
Family Man
Bergman was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He’s been wed to wife Mariellen since 1985 and the couple has two children, a son, Connor, and a daughter, Clare.
Hat Trick
He’s a three-time Emmy-winning actor. Bergman took home the gold for his portrayal of Jack Abbott at the Daytime Emmys in the category of Outstanding Leading Actor In A Drama Series in 1991, 1992, and 2002.
He has been nominated 23 times, including once for his role as Cliff on AMC. The Young And The Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
