The Young and the Restless (YR) fans have known for decades that Ashley wasn’t John Abbott’s biological daughter. But then, they got a totally out of left field bombshell: Jack (Peter Bergman) wasn’t John’s child, either. (This despite the fact that a dementia-addled Dina initially kept confusing him for John.)
Jack became obsessed with identifying his bloodline. When he found an old photo of Jill’s (Jess Walton) ex, Phillip, in an abandoned safety deposit box, Jack asked Dina (Marla Adams), “Is this my Daddy?”
“Yup,” Dina confirmed.
That was enough for Jack. Alas, when folks like Jill and Cane (Daniel Goddard) declined to accept Jack’s paternity claims based solely on the word of a woman who not only is failing mentally, but even when she was at 100%, was a horrible liar.
So Jack’s son, Kyle (Michael Mealor), dug up Phillip’s grave and stole a bone sample. (As one does.) Except, oops, the DNA test didn’t match. Jack is not a Chancellor after all!
Almost 9,000 fans weighed in on how they felt about this latest twist:
Thank, Goodness!
For 81%, it was good riddance to bad rubbish. The story never made any sense from the beginning, and hopefully, it will now fade away, never to be mentioned again.
Jack’s relationship with John was complex, fascinating, and heart-breaking. Even after his dad was dead. Why in the world would you want to fix something that wasn’t broken?
Dead End
Jack as a Chancellor opened the door to lots of juicy storylines, including a battle for the family company. Now, it just puts Jack back at square one, with nothing to do and nothing to fight for.
The fight for Jabot between Jack, Ashley (Eileen Davidson), and Billy (Jason Thompson) was getting stale. This would have infused some new blood into the Abbots – literally, and 18% are bummed to be deprived of it.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
