Her character Hilary has gone to that great soap in the sky but Mishael Morgan recently returned to The Young and the Restless to pay tribute to her late co-star Kristoff St. John.
Viewers will get to see her again this Sunday, May 5 at the Daytime Emmys to see if she wins the statuette for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series.
Soap Hub caught up with Morgan at the recent Emmy event. The gracious actress shared her thoughts on her time at YR, her late leading man Kristoff St. John (Neil), and if she’d ever go back to the show!
Congratulations on your nomination. What’s on your reel?
Thank you! I have on it the scene with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) where Hilary finds out she’s not going to make it. It also has her goodbye to Neil, which is very ironic and [surreal]. I submitted the last two scenes with Devon (Bryton James) before Hilary passed away.
It was great drama. The feeling was “let’s kill Hilary off because Mishael isn’t coming back.” Would you ever come back?
I don’t know. As of right now, I feel really happy about moving forward and trying something new in my career, playing somebody new. When I decided to become an actor it was because I wanted to be different people.
YR gave me that opportunity. Now, I’m excited to go out there and spread my wings. I’m a different person and actor than when I started. I’m going to shoot for the stars and just try [to get new roles].
I love YR. I think if I ever wanted to go back maybe they’d find a way to sneak Hilary back in [even though she died on-screen] or maybe someone who looks just like her. I respect the art form. I’ll never say no [to daytime]. I appreciate Y&R and I’m grateful for it.
What will you remember most about Kristoff?
I’ll remember that he was a light that never stopped shining — on or off screen.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
