His character on The Young and the Restless (YR) died years ago, but that didn’t stop Peter Barton (ex-Scott) from recently returning to the CBS studios where the top-rated drama is taped.
What brought Barton back to Genoa City? Soap Hub has an exclusive interview with the ex-Y&R star who revealed the details of his visit!
Bring Your Daughter To Work Day
“I’d been back to visit about four years ago to see Tracey [Bregman, Lauren, who graciously arranged this most recent visit between Barton and the show],” the actor shares.
“I probably wouldn’t have gone back this time, but my daughter [Bella, 11] was my inspiration. She watches Disney and, like every little kid, wants to be an actress. She was blown away by what she saw at the studio. Everyone was so good to her.”
Unfortunately, neither Bregman nor Barton’s TV son Daniel Hall (Scott) were working the day he visited. But he did see some former costars including Eric Braeden (Victor) and Peter Bergman (Jack).
“I saw Eric on my way out; he stopped and said, ‘How are you?’ Peter is as awesome as he’s always been. I can’t say enough about him. He said he was just talking about me the other day and shared a story about a marathon [I once ran].”
B&B Crossover
Barton and Bella also went over to B&B where he saw producer Ed Scott (who helmed Y&R when Barton was on the show) and Don Diamont (Bill; ex-Brad, Y&R). Barton’s other TV wife, Kimberlin Brown (Sheila), wasn’t there, but the actor recalls her Y&R screentest as if it were yesterday.
“Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, All My Children) had auditioned right before Kimberlin did and she was amazing,” recalls Barton. “I thought, ‘Of course, Scott would have feelings for her.’ After Kimberlin auditioned, I said, ‘She didn’t even seem like she was there.’ The producers said, ‘Exactly!'”
Barton says that producers had spied the eerie charm that Brown brings to the role that has made Sheila one of soaps’ most memorable villains.
“Sheila would do all this crazy stuff, but it all worked,” Barton notes. “And now, Kimberlin’s at it again. She’s this amazing daytime star!”
Will He Come Back On-Air?
Barton’s backstage return begs the question whether or not he’d reprise Scott as perhaps a ghost or someone’s conscience as viewers have seen with John Abbott, Rex, Phillip, and Cassie.
“I said to one of the writers ‘If you want me to be a ghost…'” Barton says with a smile.
