Exclusive Interview: Inside The Young and the Restless Stars’ Brand-New App

Devon Hamilton and Cane Ashby aren’t cutting many deals together these days on The Young and the Restless. However, their portrayers, Bryton James and Daniel Goddard, have teamed up to create a new app designed to bring not only soap fans together but also unite people who have all kinds of interests.

The Young and the Restless Stars Team Up

The pair have developed and launched BILDBORD (pronounced “Build Board”), a free app that connects users to other people who have similar hobbies and goals. Soap Hub chatted with the entrepreneurial actors about that app, which they not only came up with but they use it, too!

Soap Hub: How’d all this come about?
Daniel Goddard: I’d experience coming back to Los Angeles after going to another state to do a personal appearance and I’d post about it. People from that area would write to me and say, ‘We didn’t know you were coming!’ Even though I’d posted about it before the event.

The idea of BIDLBORD was to create one place where people could “build” their digital “board.” Users can build one profile that can be verified and it will contain all their digital presences – Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo, PayPal – you create this one board that represents you. People can come to this one place to find you and all your platforms.

How much of the control is in the hands of the user?
Bryton James: We have a lot of privacy features on the app. You can block and remove people you don’t want to see. The way you match up with people who have similar interests if adding hashtags (#) that represent you and you only match up with people who have the same interests you do in common.

Why call it BILDBORD?
Daniel Goddard: We wanted to choose a name that works phonetically. This is a global app so taking a phonetic approach reaches more people.

Can you talk more about the safety measures?
Daniel Goddard: Yes. We have a program where you become verified so that you can’t be ‘catfished.’ You’ll get a black checkmark [that verifies you] and you can choose to be connected only to verified people. We have some pre-set interests/hashtags so you’ll immediately start matching up with people. You can hit the filter icon and delete those things and add your own hashtags.

What do you each personally use BILDBORD for?
Bryton James: I use BILDBORD as my one true digital ID where I can send anyone who wants to get to know me to one place that houses all of my social media, websites, and lifestyle profiles. Also, BILDBORD helps me stay in touch with all of my connections without being limited. A few of my favorite hashtags I use to make matches are #YR #LosAngeles #Actor #Basketball #Mj and #F1fan.

Daniel Goddard: I use BILDBORD to stay in touch with soap opera fans which are to me the greatest fans in the world! For 13 years, I’ve seen friendships made and blossom because of a mutual love for daytime TV… You can use it to sell or buy a car, to find a job, a place to live, find new friends before you go to college or high school who are into the same things as you that will be at the college you want to go to! It really is limitless.
