it’s been nearly a decade since Victoria Rowell made her last appearance on “The Young and the Restless” as Drucilla Winters. Last year, when she asked to rejoin the show, the powers that be turned her down.
That’s when the battle between the actress and CBS began. After weeks of talks, Rowell decided to take action. She filed a retaliation lawsuit charged CBS, Sony, and the show itself with racial discrimination.
In November, a judge dismissed the case saying there wasn’t enough evidence, but kept the door open for the plaintiff to refile. Rowell’s lawyers amended their case and are ready to head back to court.
The actress will be back in front of a judge this month to plead her case again. Rowell announced the update via social media and invited supporters to join her. “PUBLIC HEARING! ROWELL vs SONY, CBS, BELL, CORDAY. May 23, 2016 8:30 a.m. Courtroom 750 of the U.S. District Courthouse Royal Bldg.”
Rowell is an outspoken advocate for minority rights and diversity in the workplace. She claims that CBS is unwilling to hire African American staff members in executive positions, and also allows racism on set. In addition, she alleges being a victim of several race-fueled incidents, claiming she was targeted by coworkers Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and Michelle Stafford (ex-Phyllis, GH’s Nina).
Rowell played Drucilla Winters from 1990 until her character’s presumed death in 2007. She remains one of the most talked about Y&R stars of all time.
