Everyone at The Young and the Restless loves Lee Phillip Bell, the show’s co-creator and widow of Y&R’s creator William J. Bell, but Doug Davidson (Paul) can lay claim to knowing her longer than most!
Davidson, who joined Y&R in May 1978, took to social media today to post just how much he loves Mrs. Bell, who appeared on the show with Davidson and his TV wife (and her real-life daughter) Lauralee Bell (Christine) a little over a year ago on September 1, 2016 in honor of the show’s 11,000 episode.
Restless Style
Davidson has credited Bell with some helpful advice when he was having dinner with the husband and wife soap opera creators early on in his career and recounted in Bell’s biography, The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell (written by Soap Hub’s own Michael Maloney):
“I said the neat thing about a continuing drama is that you can reference things that have occurred before. Bill may have thought I was saying he was repeating story. The more I tried to say that that wasn’t what I meant, the more I was digging myself into a hole.”
Davidson then felt a gentle tapping under the table on his shin. “It was Lee,” Davidson recalled. “It was her way of saying, ‘Stop it. Move on.'”

Such a beautiful woman. Deep bow to Mrs. Bell. No message beyond that. pic.twitter.com/f0R6g7JrBI
