Don Diamont Returns to The Young and the Restless But Not as Brad Carlton

Recently, Summer Newman and Kyle Abbott traveled to Los Angeles and appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful. Now, one of her first scene partners from BB, Don Diamont (Bill), is headed over to The Young and the Restless, the show on which he played Brad Carlton for years!

A Don Diamont Crossover

Including Diamont in YR and BB crossovers was something the actor didn’t think was going to happen. “I had not ever considered that I would be part of a crossover, just because my character was so well-defined at YR,” Diamont told Soap Opera Digest. “It wasn’t like I was on for three months.”

In fact, Diamont had appeared as Brad on YR from 1985 to 2009 (taking a brief break from the show from 1996 to 1998). “[S]o, it just kind of took me by surprise when they asked.”

Watch for Diamont to play Bill — not Brad — on the hour-long show. It’s likely that Bill will interact with Sally (Courtney Hope), whom he sparred with on BB. Bill wanted the land that Spectra Fashions, Sally’s company, called home so that he could build a big skyscraper. Bill ended up detonating the building, not knowing his son Liam (Scott Clifton) and Sally were still inside!

No word yet on if Bill will cross paths with Traci (Beth Maitland). As veteran YR viewers recall, Brad and Traci were a couple for many years. They had a daughter Colleen. Tragically, both Brad and Colleen passed away. Brad died while saving Noah Newman (then, Kyle Schmidt), who’d fallen into an icy lake. Later that same year, Colleen drowned while trying to escape Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk), who kidnapped her. Diamont reprised Brad as a spirit to help usher Colleen to the other side.

Viewers will have to tune in to see if anyone on the canvas familiar with Brad comments on Bill’s resemblance to him. When John McCook has brought Eric over to YR, no one really commented on Eric’s resemblance to Lance Prentiss, the character McCook played on YR from 1976-80. However, few characters remain on YR from that era. There are many more characters familiar with Brad, so it’s possible the writers will capitalize on the connection.

Or, the show might do a quick “hey, you look familiar” and then move on with whatever is bringing Bill to town. Stay tuned to find out! The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful air weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
