Next On Vs. Previously On The Young and the Restless: Fans Sound Off

The Young and the Restless (YR) has implemented a new format in which the previews for the next day’s episode have been removed.

In its place is a recap at the top of the show with an actor announcing “Previously, on The Young and the Restless…,” and a series of scenes are shown filling viewers in on what’s gone on in the recent and, sometimes, distant past.

Soap Hub asked Y&R fans if they like this change or if they prefer the previous format which gave viewers a preview at the end of the show. Read on for the results.

Past Imperfect
Less than half of you prefer the new format. Just over 46% of you say you like it because you may have missed something that’s already happened. The scenes from the past can be from a few days ago.

In the case of J.T.’s reintroduction, viewers saw a series of scenes from the last decade featuring the relationship between J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Highs and lows showed a moment from the couple’s wedding and them fighting over family.

Y&R Experts
Almost a third of you, 29%, already don’t like the new format, voting, “I don’t need to know what’s come before — I’m a diehard fan!” While the recaps help set the stage for what’s to come, longtime Y&R fans have great memories and are well-versed in what’s come before.

Plus, the selected scenes from the past can often be taken out of context, especially the ones that go back further. Y&R is known for its loyal audience and the genre would do well to hang onto its existing viewers and not worry about filling in new viewers who may have just come on board.

Tune In Tomorrow
The rest of you, almost 25%, are taking a wait and see approach. Some days, the recaps will be more helpful to others depending on what stories the show plans to tell that day.

If the selected scenes are all very recent and you’ve been watching daily, then you’re not going to find them helpful. Time will tell if Y&R continues this new format or reverts back to giving a preview of what’s going to happen in the next day’s episode. Stay tuned to see what happens!

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
