On The Young and the Restless, Billy and Lily have mostly been talking business. He is too impulsive, she is too cautious, he’s an adrenalin junkie, she’s hitching her wagon to the wrong star. They banter, they quip, they disagree. Are they also flirting while they do it?
Are fans enjoying the idea of a Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily (Christel Khalil) pairing – aside from the unfortunate rhyming scheme and lack of a smooth name? Almost 6,000 viewers told us how they feel:
It’s not working, 55% of you groan. Just putting two good looking people in the same room together and have them snap witticisms back and forth doesn’t make them Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, Bruce Willis and Cybill Shephard, or even Shelley Long and Ted Danson. It makes them a forced pairing. Remember the look on Lily’s face when Billy teased her about wanting to come over and kiss him?
Yeah, that’s the look on most of your faces right now. Love is supposed to happen organically – in real life and on soaps. Sure, we know it’s all being written by someone, but we want the characters to be caught by surprise. We want to see the sparks before they do. We don’t want to be told there are sparks when we obviously don’t see any. And, guess what? We don’t see any.
We’re intrigued, 45% admit. They are both oh, so pretty, and they are both single. Do you really need any more than that? They’ve got a great dynamic with his tendency to leap before he looks, and Lily’s habit of looking way, way too long.
Opposites attract, and you are open to Billy and Lily doing the same thing. This can be a slow-burning dance, and you promise to be here for all of it. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
