CBS Soap Shakeup: Daytime Executive Angelica McDaniel OUT

For nearly a decade, Angelica McDaniel championed The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful as CBS’s head of daytime. Now, there’s been a change in her status with the network.

Deadline is reporting that McDaniel is leaving the network after being there for nearly a decade. Her position is being eliminated and the daytime team will be folded into Current Programming, headed by Amy Reisenbach.

“Angelica McDaniel championed our daytime series line up with creativity, passion, and energy and broke new ground by helping launch the Network’s first daytime talk show in years while respecting the long history and tradition of the dramas and game shows,” Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, told Deadline in a statement. “We appreciate her many contributions and wish her well on her next endeavors.”

A few years ago, when CBS Daytime was celebrating 30 years being top-rated, McDaniel recreated a famous photograph from the late 1970s that brought together CBS stars from over the decades. She did the same, assembling many of the folks who helped make CBS Daytime top-rated for over 30 years for a group photo.

McDaniel took over CBS Daytime shortly after the premiere of The Talk in 2010. She championed the whole lineup. Now that the daytime division is being folded into Current Programming, it’s unknown how much, if any, network input will factor into future story and casting choices.

It’s also not known how familiar with the daypart the new people in charge are and how this will affect the two soaps. After all, The Young and the Restless has been on for 46 years and The Bold and the Beautiful has been on for over 32 years. It’s a lot to know.

Soap Hub wishes McDaniel the best in her future endeavors. The exec is already branching out into directing. She’s posted on Instagram that a short film, Trophies, that she has directed is in post-production and is getting ready for film festivals.
