When Sally learned she was pregnant on The Young and the Restless, she immediately consulted her best friend, Audra. While Sally has wanted to be a mom, the heartbreak of losing Ava gave her pause. Courtney Hope tackled Sally’s past trauma perfectly on the soap, revealing why her alter ego came to Audra first.

Key Takeaways

  • Courtney Hope spoke to Soap Opera Digest about Sally’s baby news.
  • Sally’s pregnancy will allow her to tackle her past trauma involving the loss of Baby Ava.
  • Hope also addressed the “secrets” between Sally and Billy, which led her to confess to Audra first.

Courtney Hope Reacts to Sally’s Pregnancy News

In an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest, Hope shared her first response to Sally’s baby news. She joked, “Sally needs to do better with birth control.” However, she’s interested in seeing where this storyline will take her.

Sally didn’t feel the typical apprehension that most new moms felt. She was anxious because of her devastating loss of Ava. This news gave Sally some pause. Hope noted that Sally still “feels like it was her fault.”

Sally’s pregnancy will cause her to face her past trauma head-on. Eventually, it will allow her to heal and move forward. “Yes, extenuating circumstances came into play, but I think in her mind, she truly believes that it was something that she did or didn’t do, or something that she could have done better,” Hope explained.

The Y&R actress noted that Sally experienced “more fear than excitement.” But she’s opening herself up to the idea of becoming a mom. It’s something that Sally has wanted most of her life. “So, she wanted it to be positive, but she almost wasn’t allowing herself to be happy or excited or hopeful about it because she’s just scared right now,” Hope noted.

Why Did Sally Tell Audra First?

Audra (Zuleyka Silver) was the first person that Sally went to when she thought she was pregnant. Most viewers would assume that she would’ve spoken to Billy (Jason Thompson) about it. But there’s already been so many “secrets” between them, added Hope.

On Monday’s episode, Sally told Billy that she was pregnant. The couple even tackled their past heartbreak involving Ava and Delia, further strengthening their bond. “They want to be honest with each other, and they’re really trying hard to do that, so I’m glad that’s how it played out,” Hope noted.

What’s interesting to note is that Sally’s due date is in January 2027, which is around the 10th anniversary of Hope’s debut as Sally. Hope hopes that her character will carry her baby to full term. The last thing that Sally needs is to suffer another devastating tragedy.
