Why Y&R’s Phyllis Summers Is A Top Case Of Pot Calling Kettles Black

Why, she wouldn’t hurt a fly, don’t you know?

Y&R recap for Wednesday, December 14, 2022 Phyllis Summers tells the truth

On The Young and the Restless, Phyllis Summers ended Thursday’s episode with the observation that, “Everyone has lost their damned minds.” We have to admit, we were shocked. Not because she was necessarily wrong – this is Genoa City, and nobody is mentally healthy on their best days.

The Young and the Restless: Poor Phyllis Summers

But because, at the moment, it’s quite obvious that Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) is the most deluded, confused, and on her way to full-out mentally ill one in town!

Y&R: It’s Not Me, It’s Them

Phyllis is confused about why Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) – who, fair enough, hasn’t been seen at the office in weeks – still has a job at Jabot, and Phyllis doesn’t. This was less than twenty minutes after her daughter Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) laid out exactly why she is firing her mother – and it has nothing to do with how many hours she clocked at the office.

The Young and the Restless: A Friend In Need

In between those two events, Phyllis laid into Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) and Michael Baldwin (Christian J. LeBlanc) for not taking her seriously about the threat Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) posed to all and sundry, and thus somehow also being responsible for Phyllis’ downfall. She groused that she couldn’t understand why she was being punished for wanting to protect all of Genoa City from the scourge that is Diane.

This less than twenty minutes after her daughter laid out exactly why she is firing her mother – and it had everything to do with Phyllis bringing a criminal — Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) — to town who threatened not only Diane, but her whole family, which includes Summer, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), and Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez).

Y&R: Man Overboard

Finally, Phyllis blamed Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) for blaming her for something she did after she promised not to and then denied doing it. If he was going to get so picky about honesty, well, then, she’s going to feel even less sorry for cheating on him during their marriage… with his brother Billy Abbott. Yeah, that’ll show him how well-meaning and innocent Phyllis is. Why, she wouldn’t hurt a fly…
