Why Abby & Chance Chancellor’s Y&R Breakup Is Worth Their Dull Marriage

They finally have rooting value!

The Young and the Restless viewers never quite went for the Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor and Chance Chancellor relationship. The two had barely exchanged “Nice to see you again” before they were talking about how much they wanted to be parents — and, oh, yeah, we might as well get married first to facilitate that.

Young and the Restless Heartbreak

We get it. Abby (Melissa Ordway) had lost her baby with Stitch and was aching to be a mom, while Chance (Conner Floyd) had found out his dad faked his death and was out of Chance’s life for decades, and so was eager to create the stable home life he’d lacked. So far, so makes sense. But it doesn’t make for a hot romance.

End of the Y&R Road

Chance actually said as much to Abby when they were discussing where their marriage went wrong in the aftermath of Abby sleeping with Devon Hamilton (Bryton James). And it was those breakup scenes that actually delivered what viewers wanted from the start for this couple: Genuine emotion, genuine feeling, genuine, dare we say it…love.

Worth the Wait For Abby and Chance Chancellor

Y&R fans had to sit through several years of a deadly dull marriage — with three actors in total playing Chance, which didn’t help — not to mention him being gone for multiple months at a time, in order to get to these well-written, well-acted scenes.

Both admitted that they’d made mistakes, both were clearly in pain, and neither knew exactly where they should go from here. These are the kind of scenes that make daytime drama worth watching!

Maybe now, if the writers want to try and rebuild the Chance and Abby relationship, we’ve finally got characters we not only understand but can root for. It’s a shame we had to wade through a dull marriage to get to a moving breakup. But better late than never. Maybe this couple can finally get some traction!
