Family is important to Victor on The Young and the Restless. While he loves his kids, he has a funny way of showing his affections. The Newman patriarch’s parenting skills has been scrutinized with many fans wondering if he’s a bad father.

Father of the Year?

When it comes to bad fathers on Y&R, Victor (Eric Braeden) would be a top candidate. Victor loves his family and will do anything to protect him. However, sometimes his actions do more harm than good.

Victor is known to be controlling when it comes to his children’s lives. A perfect example is Victor’s constant interference in his daughter Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) love life. Victoria has shed countless tears and endured many tears because of Victor trying to destroy her marriages.

Now, Victoria’s daughter Claire (Hayley Erin) is suffering the same fate. The Newman patriarch is using manipulative tactics to break up his granddaughter’s relationship with Kyle (Michael Mealor).

When Victor isn’t interfering in his children’s relationships, he’s usually trying to convince them to work for Newman. But it doesn’t go so well, because Victor and the kids end up fighting. Or he pits his children against each other.

Victor is known to play favorites with his children. Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Victoria are the apples of his eyes. Adam (Mark Grossman) is the Black Sheep of the Family and has a contentious relationship with his dad. Every time it appears the two have made peace, Victor does something that angers Adam and puts another strain on their relationship.

As for Abby (Melissa Ordway), they have a close relationship, but Victor rarely spends any time with her.

Victor’s behavior has created plenty of drama for his family throughout the years. Although his kids have been hurt by his actions, they end up forgiving him. Perhaps they’ve learned to take the good with the bad when it comes to the Newman patriarch.
