Chance’s top-secret undercover mission has left his bride, Abby, anticipating the birth of their first child alone on The Young and the Restless. But what happens if Chance turns up dead or missing-in-action from the dangerous assignment? It could result in one of the most convoluted custody battles in daytime history, considering all the parties involved in the baby-to-be’s existence.

The Young and the Restless Spoilers Wild Spec

Despite Chance’s disappearance, Abby (Melissa Ordway) decided to proceed with their plans to have a baby with a lot of help from Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Devon (Bryton James), who were both willing to help the newlyweds realize their dream. The unborn child is the result of Abby’s egg fertilized by Devon’s sperm and carried in Mariah’s womb. Got that?

Chance and Changes

If Chance is out of the picture, suddenly the whole situation changes. The infant won’t be born into a perfect mom and dad family. Instead. Abby will be raising the baby boy alone, which could get Mariah and Devon to rethink their roles in his future. They might even believe they could provide a better, more stable home for the boy.

Both parties could decide to sue Abby for full or partial custody of the baby, and they’d likely have strong cases. Devon is the child’s biological dad. He’s also a respectable, prominent member of Genoa City society, who’s always been all about home and family. Meanwhile, Mariah has the Newman name behind her and is in a relationship with Tessa (Cait Fairbanks). She could argue that together they could provide the most stable landing spot for the child.

Abby’s Nightmare

A custody battle would put Abby at war with her former friends at a time she could use their support the most. She’d also she has to prove herself as a strong resilient woman capable of moving past losing Chance and raising a son on her own.

Of course, the entire plot would immediately shift if and when Chance resurfaces alive and well. Imagine it happening just as a judge is ready to render a verdict on who gets custody of the baby. The timing would be absolutely perfect and blow the whole storyline to smithereens. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
