The Young and the Restless Dominic Storyline Keeps Getting Worse

It’s no secret that The Young and the Restless fans haven’t liked the storyline involving Dominic Phillip Newman Abbott Winters Chancellor from the get-go. However, just when it seems there could be a soapy twist that just might wake people up, it’s resolved in half an hour in the most humdrum of ways.

The Young and the Restless Fails to Deliver Drama

Dominic’s entrance into the world was complicated. Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) kidnapping is probably the most dramatic thing to happen with the storyline after Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) abruptly left Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) shortly after they married, leaving her on her own to create a baby for them.

Then, finally, Dominic was born, Abby manages to keep Mariah from going too far overboard with the baby she carried, Chance was presumed dead but found alive, and then Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) decided he wanted shared custody of the child for whom he was a sperm donor. Finally, some drama, but certainly not the type anybody asked for. However, that possibly dramatic situation ended up resolved in a quick fashion when Abby and Chance agreed to change the agreement over the course of a few days.

Shortly after Dominic stayed with Devon for his first overnight (minus the time Abby left him there when she went to Spain), the little boy seemed lethargic and uninterested in food. Doctors tested him, and then the show left viewers waiting for several shows before revealing the results.

Then, for no reason at all, Dr. Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) and the specialist showed up at the Chancellor mansion to discuss the baby’s health woes. The good news is Dominic doesn’t have leukemia. Whew! Of course, the bad news is he has a rare bone marrow disorder and needs a transplant right away. It’s all rather vague, but both Abby and Devon ran off to the hospital to get tested.

Oh, The Possibilities

Surely, this would be the moment The Young and the Restless would reveal something unexpected about Dominic’s biological parents. Would Devon end up not being the father? Had the lab somehow messed up and not used Abby’s eggs? Would the show rewrite history and somehow have Mariah’s eggs on ice to have accidentally created a baby? Maybe even used Devon’s late wife Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) eggs, which were stored at the same facility? The possibilities seemed endless.

Then, the specialist emphasized that parents usually only had a 50% match with their children for bone marrow. That meant usually only biological siblings would match 100%. Given that, we even wondered if perhaps Devon’s girlfriend, Amanda Sinclair (also Mishael Morgan), might end up carrying yet another of Devon and Abby’s biological children. That twist is one that undoubtedly would’ve caused an outcry against it, but at least it would’ve been dramatic.

Instead, in what was absolutely the fastest medical testing of all time, both Abby and Devon received their test results at the end of the episode. Abby, as expected, was only a 50% match. Oh no! However, Devon?

Well, Devon was a 100% match, proving that both Abby and Devon are his biological parents and completely negating the need for another fully biological sibling. How is any of this dramatic? What is going on with this soap opera? It seems like Y&R is becoming the Hallmark Movies of daytime where all conflict is mild and easily resolved. Do you agree?
