The Young and the Restless viewers know that Connor Newman is a sensitive kid and his parents typically work hard to keep him happy and healthy, but lately, Connor’s mom, Chelsea Lawson, hasn’t been herself, and he’s noticed and spoken up. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Connor’s portrayer, Judah Mackey.

Judah Mackey — Y&R Performer of the Week

This week, Mackey showed off his acting chops as Connor let several people know about how his mom has been acting lately. The actor revealed Connor’s discomfort at Chelsea’s actions through his tone of voice as he delivered the emotionally charged dialogue to other adults like his dad, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), and even when he spoke to Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope).

The scenes between Connor and Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind) also gave Mackey the opportunity to express some similar concerns about Chelsea to a kid near his own age, which meant different delivery and a different type of body language and tone. He did an excellent job as a child speaking to grownups and then as a kid interacting with another kid. He skillfully shifted gears and helped us feel Connor’s excitement and making plans with Johnny through his facial expressions and happy body language, which was so markedly different from when Connor complained about his mom.

Then, there was Connor’s obvious excitement at his “sick” Halloween costume. It couldn’t have been easy to deliver such heavy dialogue while wearing something so different than usual, but Mackey looked like the professional he is dealing with extensive face and body makeup and interacting with the adults.

Judah Mackey really hit it out of the park with his portrayal of Connor. He does a great job with the character, and we love watching as he grows. He’s always a delight to see in the storylines, and we appreciate getting to see how he walks Connor through this difficult time as Chelsea’s depression and anxiety continue to spiral down. Congratulations on an excellent performance, and we look forward to seeing many more.
