The Young and the Restless viewers know that Nick Newman loves children. He’s often the opposite of his father, Victor Newman, but both men have their focus on family in common. Right now, Nick is at a crossroads in life, and he’s trying to figure out what’s wrong. He dreamed he spoke with his children for Christmas — even Cassie Newman. For that moving performance, Soap Hub presents Performer of the Week honors for Y&R on Nick’s portrayer, Joshua Morrow.

Joshua Morrow – Performer Of The Week

Throughout the week, we appreciated the nuanced emotions Morrow gave Nick. For example, during his gift exchange with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), Morrow made us feel Nick’s sadness that once again, things didn’t work out with Phyllis despite all his best intentions.

Later, when he, Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), and Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) shared a lovely moment filled with memories of Noah’s early drawing, we appreciated how Morrow gave Nick a lighthearted moment even though behind it all, he still felt a heaviness.

However, Morrow managed to shine during his Christmas Day episode when he spoke with his parents and siblings (minus Abby Newman for some random reason), the important women in his life, and his children. We felt incredibly moved by Morrow’s performance when he encountered Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes).

A special performance shoutout to Grimes for getting her Cassie portrayal perfect without even a hint of Mariah. When Nick spoke with Cassie, we truly felt his lingering pain over her death. Then later, when he talked to Sharon about how he’d failed their daughter, we experienced the regrets and second-guessing right along with him.

We didn’t leave the episode feeling completely confident that Nick would move forward in the right direction, but we did feel his hope that things might improve in the New Year. That’s all thanks to Joshua Morrow hitting the Nick-centric episode out of the park. Bravo!
