The Young and the Restless viewers know that Rey Rosales is a straight shooter who seems quite committed to family and honor despite his recent discontent at not being a father as Sharon Rosales’s husband. He sticks by those he counts as friends as he did with Chance Chancellor and Chelsea Lawson this week. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Rey’s portrayer, Jordi Vilasuso.

Lately, Vilasuso has revealed much of what Rey is thinking, not through the dialogue he’s given to say for Rey but through Rey’s reactions and facial expressions. They’ve been spot on.

This week, on Valentine’s Day, he saw Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) enjoying some of the heart-shaped box of chocolates together that Moses Winters (Jacob Aaron Gaines) gifted him. Rey clearly felt a stab of jealousy as evidenced by his annoyed expression. However, he held back and got his face under control, and then he joined the happy exes and partook of the chocolates alongside the happy exes, looking for all the world a man who was totally fine with his wife’s ex-husband being such a large part of their lives.

Later, Rey confronted his GCPD partner, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd), and things got heated. Chance was furious that Rey had talked to Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), but Rey stayed honorable, and instead had Abby talk to Chance about her concerns. Jordi Vilasuso as Rey gave an impassioned speech to his buddy, urging him to get the help he needed so that he could be there for his family. Chance seemed to take the fiery words to heart, too, which could make a difference in his life, and some of that is thanks to Rey’s tough love.

Finally, Rey simply lights up around Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) these days. He particularly enjoys discussing Chelsea’s son with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), Connor Newman (Judah Mackey). Again, although Rey enthusiastically talks to Chelsea, a lot of his softening toward her is indicated by Vilasuso’s body language. The actor is doing a top-notch job both with what’s written for Rey and how he’s interpreting Rey’s feelings through facial expressions and body language. Bravo.
