The Young and the Restless viewers know that Billy Abbott is the Abbott family screwup. He’s doing his level best to overcome his past, but it seems Jack isn’t quite ready to let him, despite everything the older brother says. Billy is struggling to reign in his desire for power at Jabot. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R are presented to Billy’s portrayer, Jason Thompson.

Jason Thompson: Y&R Performer of the Week

This week, Thompson made us question precisely what Billy’s plan is. On the surface, Billy made a plan to be Jack’s (Peter Bergman) and Diane’s (Susan Walters) Trojan Horse. However, it seemed that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Tucker (Trevor St. John) got under his skin when they suggested that he could be the CEO of Jabot again.

Since then, Thompson has kept everyone guessing about Billy’s true intentions. He’s saying all the right words to Jack, but we loved seeing how the actor didn’t let Jack simply get away with acting so magnanimous to Billy. Sure, the younger man has had his share of screwups, but Jack himself is the beneficiary of many second chances as well.

Thompson is playing the role well, but when he went to Tucker to let him know he had the goods from Adam (Mark Grossman), it seemed pretty clear that he hadn’t teamed up with Tucker secretly, at least. We appreciated the fire and determination the actor showed in Billy as he pushed back against both Jack and Tucker this week. We also loved how he played it cool with Diane when she tried to talk to him at the GCAC bar. He didn’t quite tell her what she wanted, and we loved Thompson giving Billy that aloofness, making him hard to read, and keeping the audience guessing.

Congratulations, Jason Thompson, on an excellent performance. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
